Lake Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade Information

Picture
The Lake Ōkāreka community and surrounding area comprises a population of approximately 500 people. The Lake Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade is the first response for emergency incidents in the area. The local volunteer fire brigade was established 39 years ago by members of the community and currently comprises of 28 members, ranging in age from 16 to 55 years.

The Lake Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade meets every Wednesday night at 7:30pm at the local fire station for training. We are totally voluntary. In our 39 years of existence, we have attended a wide variety of incidents from scrub fires, flooding, slips, fallen trees, house fires, motor vehicle accidents, search and rescue, ambulance assists (we carry resuscitation equipment and an automated external defibrillator (AED) on the fire truck), no cats stuck in trees, however, we have had a dog stuck on a roof and a cat stuck down a drain.

Our Mission

The Lake
Ōkāreka Volunteer Fire Brigade pledges to provide the best service, to the people of the Lake Ōkāreka Community, Rotorua District, and Aotearoa New Zealand to minimize suffering, loss of life and loss of property incurred by fire, accidents, disasters, and medical emergencies. Our goal is emergency response with the highest quality training and resources available.

We also strive to be a pro-active organization and include activities to promote and encourage member training, community involvement, public relations, and fire prevention education as well as encourage camaraderie in the brigade.
